South coast brewer Hall and Woodhouse selects Clarke Instruments to help with major upgrade of security systems

Clarke Instruments has completed the installation of a number of pedestrian turnstiles and vehicle barriers as part of a major refurbishment and upgrade of site security by South coast brewer Hall and Woodhouse. Selected for its expertise in access control, the equipment formed the centrepiece of a range of measures including improved fencing, CCTV and proximity card systems.
For employee access the company selected Clarke's 474 full height 120 degree electrically released turnstiles in both single and double walkway versions. These were positioned in the fence around the site between the car parks and workplace as well as at a number of other pedestrian access points.
To enable the turnstiles to withstand prolonged exposure to the elements the static frames were shot blasted, primed with zinc rich primer and finished with polyester powder coat. The rotors were fully welded in stainless steel. Two type 661 rising arm barriers were installed at the main vehicle entrance alongside the guardhouse.
The traffic through this entrance is heavy and includes many very large vehicles and so the inhibit loop system that controls barrier descent has three loops over a linear distance of 15 metres to ensure that long vehicles with a high chassis remain detected continuously.
The barrier poles are supported by 3 stainless steel tensioning cables and feature high visibility double skirts, augmented by red and green traffic lights. Green is only shown with the pole fully vertical and reverts to red the moment descent commences.
The 661 barrier requires only a single-phase domestic electricity supply, which it uses to produce its own 3-phase supply internally to power the motor. This provides an exceptionally smooth and powerful operation with a high safety factor. The pole speed and drive torque can be electrically programmed to achieve the best possible operational performance.
